Memories That Linger is a book about Camp Thomas E. Lightfoot, the
only youth camp ever built by a Coal Company specifically for the children
of their employees. Located in the Appalachian mountains of southern
West Virginia, and spanning a period of almost 50 years, it was an idyllic
place where mountain children could go for two whole weeks in the summer
and enjoy good food and clean fresh air in a wholesome environment away
from the coal dust and slate dumps of the coal mining communities where
they lived. To the children it was “almost heaven”.
The Camp Thomas E. Lightfoot Reunion - Labor Day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) Sept. 2nd and 3rd was a roaring success and 107 copies of Memories That Linger were sold to old counselors and friends. When I returned home, I mailed out another 52 copies that had been pre-ordered. Now, I am starting the lengthy process of trying to get the book into book stores and setting up book signings in communities where campers registered to go to camp. I have gotten lots of feedback about how much some of you have enjoyed reading the book. If you know of anyone who would be interested in buying a copy of Memories That Linger, please direct them to this web site, or give them my home address.
